Raymond Langan Co. Mayo – Inaugural NRN Biodiversity Farmer of the Year

Pollinators such as bees allow many plants, including food crops, to reproduce. Not only do pollinators contribute directly to food security, they are key to preserving biodiversity which is a corner stone to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Bees and other pollinators serve as excellent environmental indicators which signal the health status of local ecosystems. The United Nations have dedicated  the 20th of May annually to World Bee Day. This association draws the public’s attention to the essential role pollinators such as bees play within our environment and helps to promote actions that protect and enhance pollinators and their habitats, improve their population and diversity and support sustainable development for bee keeping.

Information on actions to encourage bee populations on farms can be found on our website.
