Women in Rural Areas Research

Important and timely research from Dr Maura Farrell Lead Researcher with the NRN and Lecturer in Discipline of Geography’s Rural Studies Unit at NUI Galway has highlighted the invaluable contribution women have to the sustainability of rural society and Irish agriculture.

For example, research on by ‘Women in Rural Areas’ has been featured in ENRD Rural Connections (p.24-25) and  a peer reviewed paper entitled ‘Unravelling the strands of ‘patriarchy’ in rural innovation: A study of female innovators and their contribution to rural Connemara (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0743016717304394)

The Discipline of Geography’s Rural Studies Unit at NUI Galway continually strive to increase the quality, impact and international awareness of their research through the utilization of multi-method communication strategies in a range of academic, policy and media platforms throughout Ireland, Europe and beyond.
