Mountbellew, in Co. Galway recently became the first town in Ireland to complete the training element of the new Smart Villages Programme, currently being delivered across Ireland by eTownz. This training, funded under the LEADER Programme in Co. Galway, is designed to arm the community of Mountbellew with the tools to plot a ‘smart’ future by leveraging the town’s assets.
In an insightful interview on Galway Bay FM on the 10th of March, Steve Dolan, CEO of Galway Rural Development, Marilyn Fleming, Lead Volunteer for the coordination of the Mountbellew Smart Village Initiative, and Elaine Quinn-Kelly, Volunteer, Mountbellew Smart Village Initiative, shared their thoughts on the Smart Villages Programme and the importance of community-led local development in Mountbellew.
