Signpost Series

In association with Teagasc ConnectED, Dairy Sustainability Ireland, and Food Drinks Ireland Skillnet, the National Rural Network is currently hosting a series of online webinars called the Signpost Series.

The webinars target those interested in the environment, sustainability, climate change, greenhouse gas emissions, the impact these have on agriculture, and the science-based solutions and policies to mitigate the adverse effects and encourage the positive effects.

As agriculture is the primary land use in Ireland, farmers are responsible for farming in a sustainable manner to protect and enhance habitats and key resources. The webinars discuss the challenges and opportunities that face Irish and International agriculture.

March Topics:

  • Enda Buckley, Carbery Co-op, presented ‘Approach to Sustainability at Carbery’.
  • John Keogh, Animal Plant Health Association (APHA), presented ‘Low Impact Weed Control- Protecting Drinking Water Sources’;
  • John Finn, Teagasc, presented ‘Multispecies mixture increase yields and resilience to drought, with lower nitrogen inputs’;
  • Noel Meehan, ASSAP & Edward Burgess, ACP Teagasc, presented ‘Working with farmers to improve water quality.’
