LEADER workshop on Social Inclusion and Broadband – reports now available

Organised by the National Rural Network and the Department of Rural and Community Development (DRCD), the LEADER Social Inclusion and Broadband workshop on December 4th 2018 brought together over 80 members of Local Action Groups and Implementing Partners.

The workshop aimed to strengthen capacity around delivery of the social inclusion and broadband LEADER Programme themes through sharing ideas, knowledge and challenges.

The morning session focused on rural youth and basic services targeted at hard to reach communities, sub-themes which underpin the social inclusion LEADER theme.

  • Seamus Boland of Irish Rural Link gave a presentation highlighting rural social inclusion issues, challenges and needs. View presentation
  • Anne Walsh from the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) discussed minority ethic youth social inclusion issues and recommendations from NYCI research. View presentation
  • Barbara Carolan from Accora Orchestra discussed how LEADER funding has supported the orchestra assisting purchase of new equipment and re-branding. View presentation
  • Abiodun Ladigbolu from Ankara Festival discussed how LEADER funding has contributed to expanding and developing the festival. View presentation
  • Gloria Callinan from Clare Local Development Company presented how it approaches community-led local development. View presentation

The afternoon session focused on the LEADER Broadband theme.

  • Dympna Harney from DRCD gave an update on the LEADER Programme. View presentation
  • Dr Stjohn O’Connor from DRCD discussed LEADER project funding possibilities in the context of the National Broadband Plan. View presentation
  • Longford Local Authority Broadband Officer Christine Collins gave an overview of the work of a Broadband Officer. View presentation
  • David Hodge of CoderDojo Ireland gave an introduction to CoderDojo, also outlining the need for more local coding clubs in rural Ireland. View presentation.
