With funding and support under the LEADER Programme 2014-2020 (extended to 2022), Donegal’s first original steam engine ‘Drumboe’ returned home to the Donegal Railway Heritage Centre on 9 October, after an extensive restoration job in Whitehead, Co. Antrim, having last hauled train passengers in 1959.

LEADER funding supported the restoration of the steam engine itself as well as the building and installation of a new presentation platform and canopy at the Centre in Donegal Town. For more information on this historic project, visit the Donegal Railway Heritage Centre Facebook page.
