The LEADER supported ‘Broadband 4 Our Community’ initiative, nominated by the NRN for the European Network for Rural Development’s Rural Inspiration Awards 2022 with Kilkenny LEADER Partnership, was announced as the winner in the Digital Futures category in Brussels in October. This inspiring and innovative community-led LEADER project in the Piltown/Fiddown area of Co. Kilkenny is now the focus of a fantastic new video produced by the European Broadband Competence Office (BCO) Network.
The European BCO Network provides guidance and support to local and regional authorities, telecom operators and all other public and private stakeholders with regard to the deployment of broadband networks in their country/region. This includes advising on ways to invest effectively in broadband projects with the support of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). This video is part of the European BCO Network’s programme to promote awareness of good practices in broadband projects.
Formed by the local community upon learning that their villages were outside the National Broadband Plan funding area, Broadband 4 Our Community successfully developed a futureproofed ‘fibre to the premises’ (FTTP) broadband network in Piltown/Fiddown.
