LEADER-funded Community Hub Project in Sligo featured in Changing Ireland Magazine

Jan 22, 2021 | LEADER News

Hub Project in Sligo The Sligo Centre for Independent Living (SCIL) was set up in 1996 with the aim of promoting maximum independence for all with physical disabilities, and to support their inclusion and empowerment within their communities.

Over the years SCIL noticed that many of its members were finding it very difficult to integrate to their community, despite a desire to do so leading to increased levels of isolation and marginalisation.

With the help of LEADER funding, the SCIL established a community hub to address this issue directly by creating a space for all members of the community to meet and engage, helping to break down barriers between different sectors of the community.  The hub is fully accessible for all and has a range of spaces for people to engage in a whole host of activities.

This community hub is the first of its kind in Ireland and is named Number 45 and is located on High Street in the heart of Sligo town.
