The Westport Beekeepers Association was established in 2010 to provide education and training to anyone interested in bees and beekeeping.
The Association has since grown to over 100 members and it regularly interacts with other beekeeping associations across the county to provide training and share knowledge. They approached LEADER in 2018 to support the purchase of a number of pieces of beekeeping equipment such as beekeeping suits and accessories, as well as new and a variety of different hives for training purposes.
This project has supported members of the Westport Beekeepers Association in gaining more hands-on beekeeping experience. This project has allowed members to trial a range of pieces of beekeeping equipment such as different varieties of hives, protective equipment and learn different techniques and aspects of beekeeping before purchasing their own beekeeping equipment and bees.
