  7. Community Hub Project –...

SCIL Community HubThe Sligo Centre for Independent Living (SCIL) was set up in 1996 with the aim of promoting maximum independence for people with disabilities and to support their inclusion and empowerment within their communities.

SCIL noted that many of their members were finding it difficult to integrate to their communities despite a desire to do so. This project set out to tackle this issue directly by developing a community hub. This community hub is the first of its kind in Ireland, called Number 45 and is based in the heart of Sligo town. The hub is a fully accessible building for all with a range of different spaces for all members of the community to meet and engage.

This project was supported as part of the LEADER Programme 2014-2020 under Theme 2: Social Inclusion and the Sub-Theme Basic Services Targeted at Hard to Reach Communities. The Local Action Group is Sligo LCDC and the Implementing Partner is Sligo LEADER Partnership.
