A recent RDS Climate-Smart Agriculture Series held on the 1st of April 2022 in conjunction with the LIFT (‘Low-Input Farming and Territories – Integrating knowledge for improving ecosystem-based farming’) H2020 project discussed the potential of the organic sector in Ireland.
The Irish Government has set an ambitious target of 7.5% of agricultural land in organic production by 2027. Given that there is currently 2% of the land area farmed organically, this presents a significant challenge for the Irish organic sector but may also provide opportunities to diversify the current agricultural model to add more value to Irish agri-food products.
This webinar highlighted the numerous benefits organic agriculture offers to producers, consumers and the environment, and explored the practical solutions required to assist in the increased uptake of organic farming in an Irish setting. Leading national and international experts in this area also discussed the challenges and opportunities for increased organic agriculture in Ireland during this webinar.
