Senator Pippa Hackett, Minister for State returned from a very successful visit to Germany recently and has stated that over 2,000 new organic farmers will have joined the Organic Farming Scheme this year thus working toward reaching the goal of 10% of Irish farmland under organic production.
During her visit to Germany, Senator Hackett attended a major trade mission to promote organic Irish food and drink. She travelled to Berlin early in the part of the week, moving to Nuremburg and finished her visit to the attend the world’s largest organic trade fair BIOFACH visiting a number of Irish organic companies who were participating.
Recently the Minister also welcomed the significant progress highlighted in the Organic Strategy Forum report which plays a key role in identifying practical solutions to some of the barriers to the growth of the sector. It is hoped that from this the Organic Farming Scheme will reopen before the end of 2023.
