International Farm Transition Network Annual Conference 2022

Jul 13, 2022 | Farm Viability News

This year’s International Farm Transition Network Annual Conference took place at the Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel, Nebraska, U.S.A. from the 7-9 June 2022.

Annual Conference 2022

Keynote Speaker, Professor Alison Sheridan, UNE Business School, University of New England, Australia presented on the topic of ‘Gender and Intergenerational Farm Succession’ at this event attended by a diverse network of service providers from different professional backgrounds (e.g., accountants, lawyers, farm managers, ag lenders, extension educators, etc.) working to assist farm businesses with their successful transition to an identified successor(s).

IFTN Board Member, Dr Shane Conway, Researcher in the Rural Studies Centre at NUI Galway and the NRN, was also invited to speak at this event about novel, ‘farmer-sensitive’ strategies such as the establishment of a social organisation for older farmers called ‘Farmer’s Yards’, which can help overcome the farming community’s stalwart persistence in their adherence to traditional succession and retirement practices, which effectively obstruct the transfer of farmland from one generation to the next.
