Oct 24, 2019 | EIP-AGRI News

An Irish language version of a booklet highlighting and promoting Ireland’s 23 EIP-AGRI Operational Group projects funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) under Ireland’s Rural Development Programme (RDP) 2014-2020, was launched at this year’s Burren Winterage School on Thursday the 24th of October 2019 at the Spa Wells Centre, Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare. The launch of this booklet coincided with a workshop on the EIP-AGRI initiative at this event entitled ‘EIP-AGRI: Lessons Learned Through Shared Experiences’, organised by the Burren Winterage School in conjunction with the National Rural Network (NRN) and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM).

You can view/download this booklet here.

This EIP-AGRI publication, aimed at inspiring people in the farming community and rural areas to maximize the success of the objectives set out in the Rural Development Programme (RDP) 2014 – 2020, details the main aims, objectives, activates and background of each of the Ireland’s EIP-AGRI projects. It also features an informative infographic illustrating the geographical location of the Lead Partner for each of the Irish EIP-AGRI Operational Groups throughout the country. The English language version of this publication was launched by Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed, T.D., in Agriculture House, Dublin, in April 2019, and can be found here: https://nationalruralnetwork.ie/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/EIP-AGRI-Operational-Group-Booklet-2019-National-Rural-Network.pdf

Implementing a multi-actor approach to identify innovative solutions to particular challenges facing the Irish agri-food sector and rural economy, the 23 Irish EIP-AGRI Operational Groups align well with Ireland’s RDP 2014-2020 and national priorities. They bring together actors such as farmers, researchers, advisors and agri-businesses to address challenges such as biodiversity, profitability and sustainability by harnessing the creativity, innovativeness and resourcefulness which is the hallmark of Ireland’s rural sector. The majority of the projects are bottom-up, led by farmers who are passionate about the future of farming and the environment in their own communities. A budget of €59m is set aside for these projects.

The National Rural Network have also created case study posters and a ‘One-Stop-Shop’ interactive database of all Irish EIP-AGRI projects to further disseminate and promote the Irish EIP-AGRI Operational Groups nationally and internationally. This information, graphically displayed on a Storyboard platform on the EIP-AGRI section of the National Rural Network website, consists of a geographical map of Ireland combined with user-friendly interactivity and an infographic created for each project. This useful tool also includes links to the websites and social media accounts of the EIP-AGRI projects. A public exhibition of Ireland’s 23 locally-led EIP-AGRI projects also took place at the Burren Winterage School 2019 EIP-AGRI workshop.

Ireland’s EIP-AGRI Operational Group booklet and the interactive Storyboard database of Irish EIP-AGRI projects have been designed and produced by Dr. Shane Conway and Dr. Maura Farrell who are based in the Discipline of Geography’s Rural Studies Research Unit at NUI Galway on behalf of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) and the National Rural Network (NRN). Abstracts of all 23 Irish EIP-AGRI Operational Group projects are also featured on the EIP-AGRI Service Point’s online EIP-AGRI project database and interactive European map.
