This EIP-AGRI project is Ireland’s first small-scale biorefinery demonstration project, supporting the development of new business models and farmer diversification into the circular bioeconomy. Through the utilisation of a multi-product biorefinery, the project is helping to ensure that each component of grass is used at its highest value, whilst also offering added environmental benefits. This project is playing a key role in changing the role of farmers in the bioeconomy, from suppliers of biomass to producers of finished and semi-finished products.

Biorefinery Glas Project – NRN Guest Blog

James Gaffey, Coordinator of the Biorefinery Glas EIP-AGRI Project wrote a guest blog for the NRN providing an insightful overview of the Irish bioeconomy, and its potential in terms of Ireland’s future economic and environmental wellbeing. James also explains how the Biorefinery Glas project is trying to understand and demonstrate how we can sustainably add value to Ireland’s most abundant resource, grass, through the new lens of the bioeconomy.
