The Irish National Rural Network (NRN) have launched a new Video Blog (Vlog) series on their Youtube Channel featuring farmers who are participating in Ireland’s 23 EIP-AGRI projects located throughout the country. These projects are co-funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) and the EU under Ireland’s Rural Development Programme (RDP) 2014 – 2020.
The first episode in this exciting new series features Colm and Martin Gavin from Co. Mayo, who are involved in the €10 million Pearl Mussel Project. They explain how this results-based, locally led agri-environmental project is working on the ground to improve the quality of watercourses for the benefit of the endangered freshwater pearl, and also how it is making a difference at farm level by rewarding farmers for their environmental services, whilst having the freedom and flexibility to farm.

This good practice dissemination platform is just one of a number of multi-method communication strategies being implemented by the NRN to maximize the success of the objectives set out in Ireland’s Rural Development Programme (RDP) 2014-2020.
The EIP-AGRI initiative was set up by the European Commission to promote innovation and foster sustainable growth within the agri-food sector and rural economy through a multi-actor approach involving farmers, researchers, advisors and agri-businesses.
