Caomhnú Árann Project – Participating Farmer Insight

The 2nd episode of the Irish NRN’s Video Blog (Vlog) series on farmers who are participating in Ireland’s 23 EIP-AGRI projects located throughout the country features Cyril Ó Flaithearta from the Caomhnú Árann Project who explains how this innovative, farmer-centred, locally-led project is managing the habitats of the Aran Islands to maximise their agricultural and ecological output, and also how it is making a difference at farm and community level by bringing about a collaborative spirit and social inclusion on the islands. Caomhnú Árann Project – NRN Guest Blog

Dr Amanda Browne, Scientific and Technical Officer of the Caomhnú Árann EIP-AGRI Project wrote a guest blog for the NRN outlining the field scoring system developed for the Aran Islands (but applicable elsewhere), where farmer self-assessment is the end goal thereby reducing administration costs and training farmers to identify grasslands of high conservation value, and rewarding them for conserving and maintaining them.
