NRN would like to celebrate over 50 years of the Ramsar Convention and World Wetlands Day today, with this poetry competition for children between the ages of 4 and 12 years of age.
Young people are invited to get creative and write an acrostic poem (that is a poem in which certain letters of each line spells out a word – in this case the word “WETLANDS”).
Entries should focus on the theme of restoration of wetlands, peatlands, biodiversity, nature and habitats.
Entry details:

- Complete the poem with the first letter of each new line spelling out WETLANDS
- The competition is open to the following 3 age categories from across the country and further afield: 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12.
- Take a clear picture of the completed work
- Print your name, age and county on the entry and email to: comp@nationalruralnetwork.ie
Winners: one winner will be selected from each age category.
