Children’s Poetry Competition to Mark World Wetlands Day 2023

NRN would like to celebrate over 50 years of the Ramsar Convention and World Wetlands Day today, with this poetry competition for children between the ages of 4 and 12 years of age.

Young people are invited to get creative and write an acrostic poem (that is a poem in which certain letters of each line spells out a word – in this case the word “WETLANDS”).

Entries should focus on the theme of restoration of wetlands, peatlands, biodiversity, nature and habitats.

Entry details:

  1. Download / print the poem template (see below)
  2. Complete the poem with the first letter of each new line spelling out WETLANDS
  3. The competition is open to the following 3 age categories from across the country and further afield: 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12.
  4. Take a clear picture of the completed work
  5. Print your name, age and county on the entry and email to: comp@nationalruralnetwork.ie

Winners: one winner will be selected from each age category.

Closing date for entries: extended to 10 March 2023

The winning entries will subsequently be posted on the NRN website and social media platforms.
