Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue announced, on 1 March 2023, having received more than 46,000 applications for Tranche 1 of the Agri-Climate Rural Environment Scheme (ACRES), that all valid applications for that Tranche of the Scheme were being approved. ACRES, which is the main agri-environment measure in Ireland’s CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027, is a key scheme for the achievement of a range of climate, environment and biodiversity objectives as well as providing support to farmers
In terms of next steps for ACRES applicants, the Minister commented: ‘Formal approval letters in respect of valid applications have issued to the ACRES applicants with detailed approval summaries to follow in the coming weeks. The bulk of approval letters issued on 8 March 2023 with some further letters issuing since then. ‘The message for now is that farmers should simply wait until they receive their letters before contacting their advisor.’
The Minister noted that in addition to the approval summary, which will show where actions have been mapped on the participant’s farm, ACRES participants will be receiving a copy of the Farmland Plant Identification Guide, a booklet developed by the Department to help farmers identify the indicator species on their land to be used in the scoring process.
