Senator Pippa Hackett, Minister for State has stated that over 2,000 new organic farmers will have joined the Organic Farming Scheme this year thus working toward reaching the goal of 10% of Irish farmland under organic production. Senator Hackett has just returned from a major trade mission to Germany to promote organic Irish Food and drink. She travelled to Berlin early in the week and finished her visit to the world’s largest organic trade fair BIOFACH on Wednesday.
Recently the Minister also welcomed the significant progress highlighted in the Organic Strategy Forum report which plays a key role in identifying practical solutions to some of the barriers to the growth of the sector.
It is hoped that from this the Organic Farming Scheme will reopen before the end of 2023.
