The Catchments Newsletter brings together science from community groups, local authorities, researchers and others about the different ways we all work together to care for Ireland’s rivers, lakes, streams and coastal waters.
Every six years, Ireland prepares a River Basin Management Plan. The draft Plan for 2022 – 2027 is currently open for public consultation until March 31st, 2022. This issue of the Catchments Newsletter has stories about the draft Plan and information on Ireland’s water quality, including how 2021 marked the 50th anniversary of Ireland’s river monitoring programme.
River Basin Management Plans are key tools for European Member States to implement the Water Framework Directive (WFD). The WFD is an EU directive which commits European Union member states to achieve good qualitative and quantitative status of all waterbodies.
