The Agri-Environment Training Scheme (AETS) is a voluntary training scheme which is open to all current Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) applicants.
The Scheme is part of Ireland’s Rural Development Programme 2014-2022 and is available during the transitional period in advance of the next Common Agricultural Policy (CAP 2023 – 2027); it will ensure farmers are informed and better placed to participate in the range of environmental schemes which will be in place in 2023.
The objectives of the Scheme are to:
- train farmers in environmental practices and standards;
- encourage and help them take part in future agri-environment schemes, and
- promote awareness of the importance of farm safety.

Key Points:
- All training courses must be completed by August 31st
- A maximum of 25 participants are allowed to attend each training course.
- The amount payable to a farmer who satisfactorily attends an AETS course is €156.
- Each participant must agree to the Terms & Conditions of the AETS and complete a questionnaire prior to being added to a course, failure to complete a questionnaire will result in no payment to the attendee or the trainer.
